The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) is the international trade association of the recycling industries. Around 70 countries are represented through national trade associations and individual companies involved in recycling. BIR comprises four commodity divisions: iron and steel, non ferrous metals, paper and textiles, and has committees dealing with stainless steel and special alloys, plastics and rubber. BIR’s primary goals are to promote recycling and recyclability, thereby conserving natural resources, protecting the environment and facilitating free trade of secondary raw materials.
Project Kaisei represents an innovative constructive approach to addressing a problem that would not have been there if recycling had been promoted and implemented by all nations. By collaborating together with Project Kaisei, the BIR believes benefits will come to both organizations, as well as the whole planet.

Orca is a global sportswear brand, based in New Zealand, which built its reputation creating innovative triathlon wetsuits and performance sports apparel. World champions, Olympic medallists and weekend warriors alike train and compete in Orca products around the world each day. Our muse and inspiration, the orca killer whale, is the most populous mammal in the world after humans, and is found in all of the world’s major oceans. As a brand born out of people’s enjoyment of swimming in the ocean we place huge value on protecting orcas’ natural habitat. We are proud to be partnering with Project Kaisei and as a business have initiated a number of activities to raise the profile of the issue of marine debris, educate people about their impact on the ocean, and improve our business practices. For more information about Orca, visit www.orca.com.
Recognized by the United Nations Environment Program, Project Kaisei has recently been selected as one of less than ten global Climate Heroes in the lead up to the Copenhagen talks on climate change this December. The UNEP will be promoting Project Kaisei through their outreach and lobbying efforts as the world gets prepared for new climate change policies which are certain to be introduced at the end of the year. Project Kaisei will be using Twitter in coordination with the UNEP to drum up global support and awareness for environmental causes. Click here for more information.
The Quiksilver Foundation is proud to support Project Kaisei and its efforts in capturing the "Plastic Vortex”. The fact that we have a large amount of floating debris in the Pacific Ocean, mainly comprised of material that does not biodegrade, is unacceptable. Quiksilver, as a corporation, has always had a fundamental connection to the ocean. The company is rooted in surfing, and, as such, we have a deep appreciation for the ocean’s beauty and its power, but we also recognize its fragility. We respect and revere the environment in which we work and play, and feel strongly about its preservation for generations to come. The Quiksilver Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to benefiting and enhancing the quality of life for communities of boardriders across the world in support of environmental, educational, health and youth-related projects.
